Before you start

Before you start you driving lessons you will need to have a provisional driving license. If you do not have one you will need to apply for one via the DVLA website. Theory Test Application . You can also pick up an application form at your local post office.

If you are under 17 do not worry, you can apply for your provisional 3 months prior to your 17th Birthday. However, it will only become valid once you are 17 years old.

Your provisional licence enables you to start your driving lessons, however it does not enable you to book your driving test until you have passed the theory test.

You can book your theory test within a few days of wanting to take it and you usually get told your result on the day of the test as to whether or not you have passed. If you have your provisional license prior to your 17th birthday then you can go ahead and book your theory test and you can even take it on your birthday. For further help on booking a theory test please do not hesitate to contact the instructor.

The waiting time for a driving test is usually 6 – 10 weeks. Sooner dates are usually available through test appointment cancellations. The main test centers used are Lee on the Solent Test Centre and Southampton Test Centre. You can take your theory test at any time during your learning but I always recommend to try and take it as early as possible as early learning will mean you can ask me for help during lessons on various aspects and it will help you understand the road more.

Once you pass your theory test then I will be more than happy to book your driving test when I feel the time is right.
